This month we revisit some childhood favorites that have been “tweaked” for a more sophisticated flavor.
Macaroni and cheese: If you’re like most people, the closest you’ll get to macaroni ‘n cheese is that stuff in the blue box. But let’s be honest: That stuff is about as close to mac ‘n cheese as a house cat is to a mountain lion. Take a little extra time and make some from scratch, and you’ll be glad you did with every forkful.
Tomato soup: On cold winter days, nothing beats a bowl of tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. Sure, you can open a can, but nothing beats the flavor of homemade.

In honor of Valentine’s day, splurge a little and make a decadent dessert – no sweetheart needed (it means more for you!). The first recipe comes to us courtesy of Ghirardelli chocolate, the second courtesy of Suite 101.com:

Cooking with kids: This month we explore another idea for cooking with kids. This one’s for older kids (though it could be adapted for younger ones), and will be even more fun for them than it will be for you! Two words: Iron Chef!
